Evolution of FYRI
FYRI is in continuous development. Based on our unique salmon strain, Bleke, we are developing production capacity, brand, and experiences. Here you can follow the key projects we are working on.

Expansion of the syrtveit fish facility
Building the Future of Sustainable Aquaculture
The Syrtveit Fish Facility is the very heart of our work with Bleke. The facility has a long history as a hatchery, and we now aim to develop it into a modern production unit for commercial operations. At the same time, we will preserve its role as a living gene bank for wild Bleke, an integral part of the river ecosystem.A fully developed facility could provide 15–30 permanent jobs, in addition to a significant number of seasonal positions. The expansion will strengthen local value creation and help make Setesdal a hub for future food production. Technology and operations will emphasize low emissions, resource efficiency, and high animal welfare. “Here we are laying the foundation to unite preservation and value creation – a center that secures the future of the original salmon and ushers in a new era of sustainable food production.”

Processing Plant for Bleke
From Setesdal to the World’s Finest Tables
We have ambitions to establish a processing facility in the Setesdal region. The goal is to refine the raw material into high-quality products based on Bleke. A feasibility study is currently underway to assess potential, technical solutions, and financial frameworks. The facility will enable a complete value chain – from roe and fish to finished products. Its establishment will create local jobs and contribute to building Setesdal as a food region. “From Setesdal to the world – here we will create genuine, natural, and unique products that elevate Bleke into a global premium brand.”

Exhibition and Visitor Center for Bleke
Creating a Destination for Taste, Knowledge, and Inspiration
As part of our brand strategy, we want to make Bleke an attraction that draws tourists from both Norway and abroad. Today we have an older visitor room at Syrtveit, but we plan a major upgrade in connection with the expansion.
The facility could become a place for knowledge sharing, tourism, and unique experiences.
Visitors will be able to learn about the history of Bleke, how it has survived since the last Ice Age, and how we are developing it into a sustainable food resource.
We envision a visitor center that combines technology, nature, and culture – a venue that attracts locals, tourists, and experts alike.
“More than a facility – a living meeting point between nature, culture, and the future of food production.”
10 000 years of refined taste
Since the last ice age, Bleke has developed in the mountain-fresh water of the Byglandsfjord, and developed a unique taste. This ancient lineage offers a flavor that embodies millennia of natural perfection. At FYRI, we honor this rich heritage, and give you a taste experience shaped by history and refined by time.
